Doctor of Philosophy in Information Technology (PIT) programme offers flexible study modes to suit different needs. It is a research degree by thesis under the supervision of experienced members of academic staff or a supervisory panel. For full-time students, the minimum duration of study is 3 years, equivalent to 6 semesters, while the maximum duration allowed is 7 years, or 14 semesters. For part-time students, the programme can be completed in a minimum of 4 years, spanning 8 semesters, and must be completed within a maximum of 9 years, which covers 18 semesters.
The progress of a research student is monitored and assessed by the supervisor at the end of each semester. A final assessment is made through the thesis prepared by the student and an oral examination. A student who has satisfied the Examination Committee in all aspects of their work is eligible for the award of the master's degree.
